More on Gwyneth Paltrow

November 05, 2002 8:55 PM

The once sophisticated and elegant Gwyneth Paltrow is now a rock chick, dating Chris Martin from English rock band Coldplay. Paltrow has been dating the singer for two months since they met at a party in New York.

They were recently seen together publicly for the first time, cuddling in the back of a taxi, when they went to his local hotel in North London.

Judging by Paltrow's outfit of scruffy jeans, trainers and a woolly hat, she certainly doesn't feel the need to dress to impress.

"Chris was protective of Gwyneth when he saw the photographers. He kept putting his arm around her but she was happy to pose," a hotel regular said.

Martin, 25, is a shy man who finds the idea of fame disturbing.

This is reportedly one reason she finds him attractive.

Educated at a private school and with a degree in ancient history, he doesn't drink, smoke or take drugs.

Paltrow, 30, attended one of the most exclusive schools in New York and is also devoted to a healthy body and mind, adhering to a strict macrobiotic diet and practising yoga every day.

Coldplay are currently Britain's most successful export to the US and Martin has dedicated songs to his American girlfriend at a number of concerts.

Chris and Gwyneth an Item

November 05, 2002 8:45 PM

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has admitted he has been dating Gwyneth Paltrow.

He says he went on a secret night out with the "beautiful" actress [over] the weekend.

But the singer says they are not an item yet.

"I'm proud to be with someone who's very nice and very beautiful but she's not my girlfriend at the moment," he told The Sun.

"I feel out of my depth with all this. I met her for the first time at our gig at Wembley two weeks ago.

"It's early days. I got her number, rang her and asked if she wanted to meet. We went out at the weekend and we seem to get on.

"We met up as friends and nothing has happened. We had a good time though. I don't know when we're going out again. I feel uncomfortable talking about her. We're just becoming friends."

Gwyneth has been to several Coldplay concerts, including recent gigs at Wembley Arena and Dublin.

Chris added: "This is all very weird because she's a big Hollywood star and I'm just the bloke from Coldplay."

Another Tour Review

November 05, 2002 2:08 AM

Kumari, who you may recall sent in a great review a few weeks ago, has done it again. Be sure to read another excellent review – this time of Coldplay's recent appearance at Fair Play. To read the review, you'll need Acrobat Reader, and you'll need to click here.

Just a reminder, you can catch Coldplay on SNL this Thursday at 6pm Eastern on Comedy Central, and if you miss that show, you can catch them again on November 16th at 7pm Eastern.

And finally, there is mention of a Coldplay DVD release coming out this Christmas season over at JS Online. There aren't many details, though, so it is hard to say what their sources are. They could be talking about the video that Will has been shooting, but I was under the impression that that particular footage wouldn't be out until next year. I guess we'll have to wait for more information to surface.

Top of the Pops Awards and More

October 31, 2002 9:26 PM

Coldplay has been nominated for three Top of the Pops awards this year. Ananova is reporting that the band has been nominated for top rock, top tour and top album – all awards they are very deserving of. To cast your vote, visit BBC's website. The awards will be handed out on November 30th.

According to NME, Tuesday night's "Fair Play" event was a resounding success. After Coldplay's set, Ms Dynamite took the stage (a fellow Top of the Pops award nominee) and performed a cover of Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds" with the band, as well as a few of her own songs.

After that, Noel Gallagher from Oasis joined the band to perform 'Yellow,' a The Smiths' cover, Oasis' 'Live Forever,' and 'Whatever.' All in all, Coldplay's set ended up looking something like this:

  • 'In My Place'
  • 'Don't Panic'
  • 'The Scientist'
  • 'It Takes More' (with Ms Dynamite)
  • 'Three Little Birds' (with Ms Dynamite)
  • 'Dy-Na-Mi-Tee' (with Ms Dynamite)
  • 'Yellow' (with Noel Gallagher)
  • 'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before' (with Noel Gallagher)
  • 'Live Forever' (with Noel Gallagher)
  • 'Many Rivers To Cross' 'Whatever' (with Noel Gallagher)
Sounds like it was quite the night for those who were lucky enough to attend!

For those of you here in the U.S., you can catch a rerun of Coldplay on Saturday Night Live this coming Thursday, November 7th. It will air at 6pm Eastern on Comedy Central.

And finally, Ed O' Brien of Radiohead fame has given Chris Martin and the guys in Coldplay props for handling their rather sudden success in the music business. In an article at dotmusic, he is quoted as saying "I think they've had a lot more success than we had initially. If we'd have had their success that early I know we would have imploded big time, so full marks to them."
