Crack the Puzzle

April 08, 2005 7:37 AM

Coldplay's long-awaited third album, to be released on June 6, will appear in a sleeve that looks like a computer game, similar in appearance to New Order's "floppy disk" sleeve for Blue Monday. The artwork of colours on a black background contains a secret code that fans are invited to crack.

X&Y, the follow-up to the multi-million-selling A Rush of Blood to the Head, had many of its initial songs and recording sessions scrapped. In particular, the song Talk, which samples Kraftwerk's Computer Love, was leaked on to the internet and then abandoned before a new version was added to the album at the last minute.

Article continues "It was going great until someone said, 'That should be the single,'" lead singer Chris Martin told NME. "We freaked out and scrapped it. But now it sounds great."

Coldplay will play an intimate, MTV-broadcasted London show the day before the CD release, then tour.

Tour Update

April 05, 2005 2:59 PM

As many of you know, Coldplay is currently planning a tour in support of their soon-to-be-released album, "X&Y."

As is to be expected, the shows are selling out fast. For instance, Soul Shine is reporting that this year's Glastonbury Festival sold out in record time (under 3 hours). Coldplay will be playing that show the weekend of June 24-26, along with other acts such as The White Stripes and New Order.

If you're interested in keeping up on the latest known Coldplay tour dates, I recommend taking a look over at Pollstar, which always seems to have the latest tour information.

It's going to be an exciting summer for Coldplay fans!
