November 28, 2006 5:57 PM
Chris Martin played a surprise set in London last night, airing a new Coldplay track and a cover of a Killers song.
The Coldplay star appeared on a bill that included Lily Allen, The Automatic and James Morrison, in the latest Little Noise Session for the charity Mencap.
Martin performed four songs with a violinist at the Union Chapel, covering "When You Were Young" by The Killers and new track "Bucket For A Crown", which he said was written 24 hours earlier.
Finishing his set with a cover of Bob Dylan's "Buckets Of Rain", Martin paid tribute to Allen, who later played a five-song set, including acoustic takes on "LDN" and "Smile".
Dedicating the song to the UK pop star, he said: "This is for Lily Allen. She's gorgeous, she's sweet. And if I wasn't married..."

Coldplay Auctioning Off Their Shoes for Charity
November 25, 2006 1:50 PM
Coldplay, David Bowie, Johhny Marr, Lily Allen and Editors' Tom Smith are auctioning off their shoes for charity.
They join the likes of Nina Persson from The Cardigans, Tim-Rice Oxley from Keane and Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, who have all contributed trainers, high heels and boots to the online sale.
A host of shoes have been signed and the majority are backed up by a signed verification certificate, for the charity MAG (Mines Advisory Group).
The organisation's executive director Lou McGrath said: "The support from celebrities for the shoe auction has been fantastic and resulted in an impressive collection of footwear. The money raised will play a vital role in clearing the remnants of conflict, preventing injuries and deaths and regenerating communities. The money is especially needed for our work in Lebanon, where the UN estimates there are around 100,000 unexploded bombs at 359 separate sites."
Bids for the auction will continue until December 8. For more information go to magclearsmines.org.
