Lead Singer of Travis Takes Credit for Coldplay's Success

July 22, 2007 11:10 PM

According to, Travis frontman Fran Healy is taking credit for Coldplay's success:

Coldplay only catapulted to superstardom because of Scottish band Travis' groundwork, their frontman claims.

Fran Healy is adamant his group's hit 1999 album The Man Who helped forge a demand for similar music.

He says, "(We) created a playing pitch for bands like Coldplay and the other dozens of groups who came after The Man Who to sell not just hundreds and thousands of records, but millions of records."

What ever happened to Travis anyway?

Avril Lavigne Covers 'The Scientist'

July 17, 2007 9:13 PM

American pop singer Avril Lavigne has performed a cover of Coldplay's "The Scientist," and you can listen in over at Mixtape Maestro.

From the looks of the comments, though, it doesn't look like anybody's all that impressed.

Personally, I prefer Aimee Mann's rendition.

Five Years

June 21, 2007 12:58 AM

According to the site credits, Bernie's Coldplay Site turns five years old today (June 21).

I remember putting the site together in anticipation of the release of "A Rush of Blood to the Head" back in 2002, not really knowing if anyone would visit it or what its future would hold. Half a decade later, Bernie's Coldplay Site is a fan favorite with a loyal visitor base that has continued to evolve just as the band and its music has. None of it would be possible without you, Coldplay's fans, so thanks for being a part of it.

If you feel like reminiscing, you can read the site's first news entry, E-Zine 3 Released, or you can stroll through some of the site's previous designs over at, including the design the site launched with.

Additionally, if you have any thoughts on the first five years of Bernie's Coldplay Site, I'd love to hear from you.

It's been a long time coming
And I can't stop now
Such a long time running
But I can't stop now.

New Album in September?

June 10, 2007 2:21 AM

According to, online retailer has September 3, 2007 listed as the release date for Coldplay's forthcoming album. Since the 3rd falls on a Monday, I'm guessing that would be the release date in the United Kingdom, and the album would be released on September 4th in the United States. However, this still feels like a rumor at this point, so stay tuned for updates with better information (hopefully).

Coldplay's New Album Labeled 'Experimental'

June 01, 2007 8:49 PM

Coldplay are reportedly heading in a new direction with their fourth album - with a rocky edge to their music.

It seems frontman Chris Martin was so excited by their new sound that he got Embrace pal Danny McNamara to listen in.

The musician, who penned the official World Cup 2006 anthem, told the Daily Star: "Chris gave me a sneak listen to some of the new tracks and they blew me away.

"They are very experimental and much more out-there than what you would expect - they are breathtaking.

"There are lots of big fat guitar riffs but soulful, emotional moments too. Chris played me a track which was just him and a piano and I just thought, 'Wow'.

"They haven't planned any dates for releasing it yet. You can't put a deadline on that kinda stuff."

He continued: "Whatever your expectations of Coldplay music, throw them out the window."
