Coldplay Contest and 'Sounds Eclectic'
July 23, 2002 10:14 PM
As you might have noticed already, there is a new banner on the home page for a new Coldplay contest. Hollywood and Vine is giving out concert tickets to the band's upcoming U.S. club tour. They have five pairs of tickets to each show and will be giving them out to contest winners. Be sure to visit Hollywood and Vine to enter.
Coldplay will be featured on the new 'Sounds Eclectic Too' CD which will be released on September 24th. The track featured is 'Yellow,' and the version is described as follows:
"Coldplay's version of 'Yellow' is a solo-piano version of the song recorded by frontman Chris Martin. The version, taped last December, quickly became a favorite among station listeners."

Coldplay Get MTV VMA Nominations
July 22, 2002 9:24 PM
Coldplay has been nominated for "Breakthrough Video" and "Best Art Direction in a Video" for their "Trouble" video at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.
The awards will be handed out on August 29th, just two days after the U.S. release of their new album, 'A Rush of Blood to the Head.' It would be good to see them take home the awards.
For a list of all the MTV VMA nominations, see MTV's website.

More 'Last Album' Rumors
July 19, 2002 6:46 PM
Yahoo News is bringing old rumors back to the surface by questioning if 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' will be the band's last album. It seems to me that the rest of the band is a lot more optimistic about the future of the band, but of course, Yahoo has chosen to focus exclusively on Chris Martin's words:
"The way I look at it is, that we could die at any point, you know? We're on airplanes all the time and, you know, life to me seems very fragile and there's no point in saving songs for your 15th record because you might never get to your 15th record. There's no point in saving energy on a concert because you got a concert the next day, you know? So it might be our last record, I don't know. We won't make another record unless it's better, and at the moment we really don't have anything left."
Sounds more like an outlook on life than it does an outlook on studio-time...but the media loves to eat stuff like this up and turn it into what it really isn't. I look at it this way: 'AROBTTH' sounds so beautiful so far that it would be quite the album to end on, but it also serves as an example of what this band can do when it works together...all the more reason to keep making music together.
Have an opinion on this? I'd love to hear it in the discussion forum.

'In My Place' Single
July 19, 2002 4:40 PM
Ananova reports that the "In My Place" single will contain two extra tracks titled, 'Bloom Blaum' and 'One I Love.' NME is reporting, however, that the one song is called 'I Bloom Blaum.' I'm not sure which the official title is.
I haven't heard the 'Bloom Blaum' track yet, but I did hear a live version of 'One I Love' from when Coldplay played Liverpool last month. It's a great song, so the single is going to be a must-have.

Album Title Dumbed Down
July 19, 2002 4:20 PM
According to Yahoo News, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has been forced to explain the new album's title to people outside the UK who don't quite understand the expression (to be honest, I didn't even know this was an expression until I read the article).
People have apparently been asking questions like "'What is this? Does it mean you're embarrassed? Are you blushing? Have you some problem with your ears?" Chris says the answer is "No."
"The phrase...when you do something on impulse, you know, when you suddenly think, 'Right, I'm gonna go to Paris today,' or 'I'm gonna ask Rachel Weisz to marry me,' or 'I'm gonna ring up J. Lo and say, "Let's do a remix album,"' whatever. Basically, when you suddenly feel really alive, you know?"
Quite the explanation! I'm glad he clarified! :)
