'Politik' Today

August 05, 2002 1:46 PM

Don't forget, folks, all registered Coldplay.com members get to listen to the first track off 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' today. Just head on over to arushofbloodtothehead.com with your password in hand, and you'll be well on your way to hearing my favorite song from the album so far. I haven't heard them all, and may not until the album is released. I am listening to the stream of 'Politik' as I post this news, though, and it sounds amazing.

If you have some time, don't miss out on an article titled Coldplay Kicks Off U.S. Tour over at Yahoo Launch. There isn't much new information there, but it is a nice teaser article for the upcoming tour.

Unfortunately for us U.S. fans, the new 'In My Place' single doesn't come out today like it does for all those lucky fans in England. We'll have to wait a little longer. When looking for release date information at CDNow.com I noticed that Chris Martin's annoyance with people who forget the leading 'A' in the album title has even more merit, as the people at CDNow have left the leading 'A' out completely. Hopefully their August 13th expected release date for the 'In My Place' single isn't right either.

And finally, for those who weren't able to catch Coldplay's appearance on Canadian music channel Musique Plus last night, NME.com is reporting the following setlist:

  1. Politik
  2. God Put a Smile Upon Your Face
  3. Trouble
  4. Daylight
  5. Yellow
  6. In My Place
  7. The Scientist
  8. Life Is For Living
Apparently, after cameras stopped rolling, the band fouled up 'Shiver' and instead finished with 'Don't Panic.' From what I've heard on various parts of the web, it was quite a show!

$2 Bill, Affiliates, and 'I Bloom Blaum'

August 03, 2002 2:17 AM

First off, for any of you who had the means to watch MTV2's $2 Bill show tonight and missed it, RockOnTV is reporting that the concert will be shown again on Monday, August 5th at 2am Eastern, and Tuesday, August 20th at 1:30am Eastern. If anyone happened to watch/tape the show I'd love to hear from you, so drop me a line.

I may be able to use your help in other ways, too. As many of you know, Coldplay is playing a fan-only radio show in Montreal this coming Sunday (August 4th) on Musique Plus. The website describes the upcoming show as both a "seriously and humorously inspired" show that promises to be magical. The band will apparently be playing songs from their upcoming album as well as taking questions from their fans.

This is where you come in. I am looking for anyone who has access to this show...whether it be simply listening or, in the best-case scenario, attending or taping (radio broadcast). If you qualify, please let me know. I am also hoping to get a head start on recruiting some affiliates for the upcoming U.S. tour to help out with show reviews and setlists so other fans can get a taste of what's ahead when Coldplay comes to their town. If you're interested and would like to help out, send me an email. The next few months are looking to be very exciting

And finally, some news related to the single for 'In My Place,' which comes out next week. I heard a rumor in the official Coldplay forum that the title for the b-side 'I Bloom Blaum' was taken from an Icelandic review of one of Coldplay's shows. If the rumor is true, then the track's title actually translates in English to 'I Bloom Wet.' Very, very interesting! Or, perhaps, not.

MTV $2 Bill

August 02, 2002 5:24 PM

Don't forget to catch Coldplay tonight on MTV2's $2 Bill. You'll even have the chance to ask the band a question if you get to MTV2's site on time. If they air your question they'll even send you two crisp dollar bills in the mail. Whoopee! Anyhow, be sure to catch the show tonight, which airs on MTV2 in the U.S. at 10pm (Eastern/Pacific).

According to Ananova, Chris is getting annoyed by people who can't get the new album title right. Apparently people keep omitting the leading "A," including Steve Lamacq who interviewed them. Chris revealed the annoyance on Radio 1's Jo Whiley show, where they played five songs live from the upcoming album.

Hopefully people will find it easier to remember the album title after getting to listen to it more. Registered Coldplay.com members will have their chance to memorize the title and the songs, it seems, as the band's official site will be previewing 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' one track at a time to registered members in August. They'll be unveiling one song a day starting on August 5th and running for 11 days.

A Coldplay spokesman said: "We wanted to make sure that all registered Coldplay.com fans got the first chance to hear the new album before it even goes to radio."

Album Listening Parties

July 31, 2002 1:35 PM

Coldplay fans will have the opportunity to preview the group's second album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, during a series of listening parties scheduled in 10 U.S. cities for Wednesday and Thursday (July 31 and August 1). The album is not due for release until August 27..

Parties are scheduled for Wednesday in Seattle; Austin, Texas; Dallas; San Francisco; San Diego; and Portland, Oregon. Four more are slated for Thursday in St. Louis, Denver, Atlanta, and Cleveland. Another gathering is also on the schedule for August 8 in Los Angeles.

However, fans will be on their own when it comes to sizing up the album. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin says he'd rather not try to explain it. "You know, to describe an album, particularly a new album, is a bit like someone asking you to describe your own nose, you know, because you're the one person that can't really see it for what it is, you know? Even if you look in the mirror, it's still the wrong way around, and that's how I feel about talking about our albums, because we're just too close to it."

A Rush Of Blood To The Head features the single "In My Place." Coldplay will promote the album with a club tour in select U.S. cities in August, with a series of dates in larger venues to follow in September.

Coldplay listening party dates (subject to change):

  • July 31st
    Seattle, WA - Chop Suey
    Austin, TX - Club Deville
    Dallas, TX - Tree's
San Francisco, CA - Cafe Du Nord
    San Diego, CA - Casbah
    Portland, OR - Fez Ballroom

  • August 1st
    St. Louis, MO - Galaxy
    Denver, CO - La Rumba
Atlanta, GA - Acqua at Eleven
    Cleveland, OH - Grog Shop

  • August 8th
Los Angeles, CA - Nacional -- Neal Weiss and Lyndsey Parker, Los Angeles
