Darius and Coldplay
August 10, 2002 2:01 PM
'Pop Idol' runner-up Darius is set to beat Gareth, Britney Spears, George Michael and Will Smith in the Top 40 this week, but he's still up against Coldplay.
Darius told Radio 1 he isn't worried though because he loves Coldplay, loves Chris Martin and loves their first album:
"'Parachutes' was an album that really got me through last year actually. After 'Popstars' I had a really bad time through the press."
"The lyric, 'they spun a web for me' kind of echoed in my head whenever I was playing their album. They're an incredible band and they're incredible people. I saw Chris, actually, the other weekend, and he's a really, really incredible guy."
But Coldplay's Chris remembers their meeting a bit differently:
"I met Darius the other way, and I was so rude, I was in such a bad mood, I just sort of walked past him and shook his hand on the way. So he deserves to be No.1 cos I acted like a **** when I met him!"

Tired of Waiting?
August 09, 2002 2:09 PM
As you probably already know, arushofbloodtothehead.com has been streaming one track a day from Coldplay's forthcoming album, 'A Rush of Blood to the Head.' However, for those out there who are dying to hear the whole thing (you know who you are), VH1 is now offering single streams of every song...or the ability to listen to the album in its entirety. If you've decided to crack and want to listen to 'ARoBttH' in one sit-down session, either head on over to VH1's Colplay Page, or simply click on the album tracks on the right-side of every page on my site. Happy listening!
Just as a correction to previous news (you'll have to forgive me with these corrections...when it comes to Coldplay I get overly excited and post things before I really think about what I'm doing), I realized this morning that the limited edition lyric book being offered at ColdplayShop.com is for those who pre-order the new album and NOT for those who buy the 'In My Place' single through the site. More incentive to get your orders in early. Sorry for any confusion...
Congrats go out to those in Washington D.C., who will see Coldplay at the 9:30 Club tomorrow. Then, remember, the band will be taking a travel day before playing the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on Monday. I still haven't heard from anyone who has seen them in Boston or Philly, but hopefully you guys will come out of the woodwork and email me. I already have people who are going to see Coldplay soon writing and asking if I know the setlist they've been playing or any other information. If not for me, help the fans!

The New Single & Radio
August 07, 2002 8:12 PM
Apparently there has been a little confusion about the new 'In My Place' single. I was unable to find it in stores yesterday, and it sounds like I wasn't the only one. Some people in the official Coldplay message board were complaining that the copies they did find only had 'In My Place' on them, or only one of the b-sides (in addition to 'In My Place') rather than both. Since it was cheaper with free shipping and I might get a limited edition lyric book out of the deal, I just decided to buy mine from www.coldplayshop.com. Hopefully those of you out there who haven't picked up a copy yet will find what you're looking for soon.
According to Ananova, the new single is on its way to being topped by Darius' 'Colourblind' this week. This is according to mid-week sales figures, though, and may change. Maybe as people start finding the copy they want the figure will increase and give 'In My Place' a nice sales boost.
Virgin Radio has set up page dedicated to Coldplay on their site, and you can now listen to some great-quality audio tracks from their in-studio session. You can also listen in on an inteview they did for The Pete & Geoff Show, and take a look at some photos from their recent session. If you don't feel like heading over to the site, you can click the following links for God Put a Smile Upon My Face, In My Place (beautiful version), and the interview.

'In My Place' Today, and Jane Review
August 06, 2002 6:05 PM
Just a reminder, registered coldplay.com members can listen to a stream of 'In My Place' all day today over at arushofbloodtothehead.com.
Kenya Hunt, of Jane Magazine, recently reviewed 'A Rush of Blood to the Head,' and gave it a sub-par rating of 2 out of 4 frogs (frogs?). Her review reads as follows:
"When Parachutes first dropped back in 2000 sounding all melancholy and whimsical, I loved it and got nostalgic for old Radiohead. Then "Yellow" got picked up for the corny ABC network, and the Brits unfairly lost all their cool points. This sophomore release might not help the guys out either. It sounds like 'retail rock.' You know, the generic stuff they play in Abercrombie & Fitch and Urban Outfitters. Skip it."

VH1, Club Tour, and Goodies
August 06, 2002 2:18 AM
In case you're anti-coldplay.com or something, VH1 has announced that they will be streaming 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' in its entirety from August 12th to the 27th.
If you didn't already know, Coldplay has been named Artist of the Month over at Yahoo! Launch. Be sure to check out the special Artist of the Month page to get some exclusive downloads and interview clips with Chris.
And now on to tour news. The band will play the 2nd gig on their small U.S. club tour tomorrow night (August 6th) in Boston. They'll follow that up Wednesday night (August 7th) with a show in Philadelphia, and then have a few days off before playing Washington D.C. on Saturday, August 10th.
Just a reminder...if there are any fans attending the upcoming tour dates that can send me setlists and/or reviews, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm sure the fans who are missing the shows would appreciate it too. If interested, drop me a line.
And finally, Coldplay's official website announced today that the first 1000 fans to pre-order 'ARoBttH' from coldplayshop.com will receive limited edition lyric books, and one will be selected at random to receive a signed copy from the band. All the more reason to reserve your copy today!
