X&Y is Album of the Year

Coldplay's X&Y has been named the best album of 2005 in a list compiled by British rock magazine Q.

The group's third album topped the charts in 28 countries.

Gorillaz's Demon Days came next in the Q ranking, followed by Employment by Kaiser Chiefs and the Oasis release Don't Believe The Truth.

Tracks from the top albums - Oasis' The Importance of Being Idle, Coldplay's Fix You and Kaiser Chiefs' I Predict A Riot - were named singles of the year.

Coldplay were named best act in the world at the Q Awards in October.
